Daily Lesson GAME Plan-1 Problem-based lesson
Lesson Title: Creating a Free Form Structure Related Lessons:
Grade Level: 11-12th grade Unit: Instillation Art Construction
GOALS
By the end of this lesson students will have an in depth understanding of how to build a free standing structure out of recycled materials.
Content Standards:
3. Content Standard: Choosing and evaluating a range of subject matter, symbols, and ideas
...apply subjects, symbols, and ideas in their
artworks and use the skills gained to solve
problems in daily life
ISTE NETS-S:
1. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity
Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments. Teachers:
a.promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness.
Instructional Objectives: The student will research and become familiar with construction techniques needed to construct a free-form art structure.
ACTION
Before-Class Preparation: Students have been given a quick pre-lesson talk about the upcoming lesson. We talked about construction, art instillations, recycling in art and free-standing art sculptures. We reviewed vocabulary dealing with form, structure and construction techniques.
Students have also been given a review on research techniques involving the school computers.
During Class
Time 45min + additional class time for construction of object- may run into 2 more class periods. Instructional Activities:
Whole group (10 min.) Class is given a question: “Can you create a free standing solid sculpture that shows artistic expression using just paper?” We discuss this concept as a whole class.
Small groups (25 min.): Students are broken up into small groups of 2-3 students. Given the above question they are to figure out a way to solve the problem. They can research and draw up plans. They can sketch in their notebooks or just start experimenting (small scale). By the end of this class period- I expect everyone to have a plan. Materials and Resources:
papers of all sorts
laptop carts
misc. art materials around the room.
Because we are in the art room, students are expected to spread out. The students will be working in small groups of 2-3, as my HS classes are usually small.
MONITOR
Ongoing Assessment(s): Students will be expected to write a reflection about today’s experience as a bell ringer to leave the room. This will be my way of monitoring progress as well as observation. I will have each member of the group keep track in their journals who did what task and such for records.
Accommodations and Extensions: The students will be expected to put on a little art show at the end of the unit- an instillation.
Back-Up Plan: students in my room are welcome to modify if something doesn’t work, If we have trouble over-all making the structures out of just paper, we add other recycled materials.
EVALUATE AND EXTEND
Be specific and include the evaluation that you will use for this lesson at the end of the plan:
I will give each student a weekly grade on their bell ringer journal entries. The students get 1 individual grade and one group grade. The group grade is formulated by using the journal entries each make saying what each member did and my observation. The individual grade is done by using the rubric that the students will see at the beginning of the lesson.

Lesson Title: Creating a Free Form Structure-group Wiki Related Lessons: Creating a free form structure
Grade Level: 11-12th grade Unit: Instillation Art Construction
GOALS
By the end of this lesson students will have deeper knowledge of how to build a successful group wiki,
Students will be able to demonstrate their knowledge of free form structures through class discussion and demonstration of their wiki to the class.
Content Standards:

2. Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments
Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessment incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the NETS•S. Teachers:
a.
design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity.
ACTION
Before-Class Preparation: Students will have already made wikis in the art room and other classrooms throughout the school year. There will be a review sheet handed out at the end of the class before this lesson. Students are to review the sheet on their own time so that they will have a heads up upon coming into the room. Students have already done the basic research for their art project.
During Class
Time 45min + additional class time for construction of wiki paper and published page- may run into 2 more class periods. Instructional Activities:
Whole group (10 min.) Class is shown the class wiki page that I have set up with each group’s heading page that they will publish under. Students will write down the vocabulary: wiki, publish, internet, in their journals along with the definition. I will show them how to take their notes, consolidate them into a paper and publish that on the wiki. They then will be on their own to do the same.
Small groups (35 min.): Students are in into small groups of 2-3 students. Given the above wiki challenge, they must make sure they have enough research to write a page (2-3 paragraphs). They will write it, type it and publish it on the class page. By the end of this class period- I should have at least seen everyone’s initial writing. Materials and Resources:
presentation post-it papers (emergency backup)
laptop carts
Student's notes.
Projector & screen with laptop hookup
Because we are in the art room, students are expected to spread out. The students will be working in small groups of 2-3, as my HS classes are usually small.
